Over five years after the project was first announced, the fantasy series is finally here. Avatar premieres on Netflix on Thursday, February 22, 2024 with all eight episodes.
Can Netflix’s Avatar Series Make Us Forget M. Night Shyamalan’s Movie?
Avatar series creator Albert Kim (Sleepy Hollow) is not the first to tackle a remake of the popular fantasy material. Twist master M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) directed 2010 The Legend of Aang – with the twist that that Cinema adventure failed with audiences and critics.
Although The Legend of Aang (originally: The Last Airbender) doubled its $150 budget according to Box Office Mojo with worldwide revenue of $319 million, the ratings of 4.4 on Moviepilot are a clear statement. The critics and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes (only 5% and 30%) speak to descriptions like “emotionless”, “CGI overloaded” and “cobbled together” a clear language about what the world is talking about first failed live-action film adaptation held.
There was no sequel to the fantasy film. After the reboot, Netflix can now change that with a possible second season of Avatar, especially since showrunner Albert Kim told Fandomwire that it will be the first film remake “never seen on purpose” to have.

At Criticism regarding changes to the template, such as Sokka’s scaled-back machismo, Netflix’s new Avatar series didn’t get past either. But the first long trailer convinced many fans that the anticipation for the new edition could be justified. The fans will be able to make their final judgment next Thursday.
