12 million French people will receive a letter from the tax authorities and it’s bad news

This tax letter arrives during the holidays bad news for

The document will arrive within a few days.

The summer lightness is well and truly over. The new school year started with bad news for 32 million French people: a new letter from the tax authorities. The tax authorities sent (and continue to send) an important document to most of the population, either by paper or directly on their personal space on the tax website. If the latest letter from the Directorate General of Public Finances could hide a nice surprise with a tax refund, this time, it is not the case.

While many taxpayers have received it for several days, 12 million people have not yet received this communication from the tax administration. It should not be long, since it is expected to arrive in just a few days. Since the sending is mainly done directly online, an e-mail will soon be sent and it should not be missed, even if its subject will be vague.

Indeed, starting Friday, September 20, an email from the DGFiP will arrive in email boxes with the subject line “New documents available”. It will be imperative to open it because it will announce that the property tax notice for the year 2024 has been sent. This is the second wave of mailings, intended for monthly payment owners, i.e. 12 million people. Among them, people who still prefer to obtain the paper version of this notice will see the mail arrive a few days later because the mailings will be made by the DGFiP between Monday, September 23 and Wednesday, October 9.

Property owners who pay part of the property tax monthly do not yet know the amount of the check to be written for 2024. In this document, they will therefore discover the exact amount they still have to pay, in relation to the monthly payments already paid to the tax authorities, based on the amount for 2023.

For their part, non-monthly paying owners have already received their property tax, since August 28 directly by e-mail, or by La Poste (mailings began on August 28 and last until September 20),

Receiving the mail is not an injunction to pay immediately. The tax authorities are granting the French a period of time to be able to pay their property tax. Those who do not pay online will have until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, while those who pay online will have until Sunday, October 20, at 11:59 p.m.

This year, the property tax will increase by at least 3.9% for all French people. So, if you paid 500 euros in 2023, the bill will be 519.5 euros this year. It will rise to 1039 euros if you paid 1000 euros last year and to 2078 euros if it was 2000 euros last year.
