The fantasy films of the last few years have had a lot to offer. Looking ahead to 2025, there are again some promising magical excursions, especially in the cinema. Magic and dragons included. Stars like Jack Black (School of Rock) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) are in the cast when a group of players are magically transported to the adventure land made up of square blocks and are supposed to save the world there.
4. Cute fantasy competition for Baby Yoda
The Legend of Ochi – Trailer (English) HD
If Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) melted hearts in The Mandalorian, this feat should also be the same for the new creature The Legend of Ochi succeed. The young German system-buster leading actress Helena Zengel decides to bring the sweet monster home from the Carpathians, while Willem Dafoe follows on her heels. In the trailer, the film, complete with armor and cars, moves in no man’s land between old fantasy and modern life and is distributed by A24, a company that stands for sophisticated and unusual films.
5. A dragon remake conquers the fantasy sky
How to Train Your Dragon – Teaser Trailer (German) HD
Disney isn’t the only one who can remake animated films as live-action adventures. With How to train your dragon made easy Dean DeBlois is once again filming his own fantasy hit of the same name as a live-action film with real actors. Viking boy Hiccup (Mason Thames) befriends a dragon, much to the chagrin of his father (Gerard Butler), even though the Nordic people are strictly hostile to these creatures and hunt them. The first trailer already showed amazing parallels between the original and the remake.
6. In 2025, body swap fantasy returns
Almost 20 years after Freaky Friday (2003), Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return as a mother-daughter duo to swap bodies again and change the perspective on their lives. This time they are in Freaker Friday but a few more (step) family members and a dog with tumbling identities in the mix.
7. German Fantasy is coming in 2025 based on a famous template
Christian Ditter (Turkish for Beginners) is filming the fantasy story of the orphan girl who takes on the soulless gray men who steal time from her city in 2025: Momo. The German production brought international stars such as Martin Freeman and Claes Bang on board. The film is of course based on the famous book * by Michael Ende (The Neverending Story).
8. Martial arts fantasy with wild fights back in the cinema
After the film Mortal Kombat breathed new life into the fighting video game franchise in 2021, Simon McQuoid is also delivering the sequel to his fantastic duels in 2025: Mortal Kombat 2. Of course again with Lewis Tan as the main character Cole and Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden. Also new this time is The Boys star Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, so the fantasy fists can fly.
9. A sequel to a German fantasy franchise
In New Stories from Pumuckl, Marcus H. Rosenmüller brought the iconic Klabautermann into a new generation. The film consisted of the first three episodes of the RTL+ series of the same name. After Pumuckl literally falls for a carpenter, only he can see the supernatural being who loves to play pranks. Pumuckl and the big misunderstanding has the two return for a new adventure.
10. New fantasy film 2025 brings wish fulfillment for Matthias Schweighöfer
The life of desires is filming the fantasy novel of the same name by Thomas Glavinic. For Erik Schmitt’s film, Matthias Schweighöfer takes on the role of the egotistical copywriter Felix, based on the Aladdin and the Genie in the Bottle principle, who has to learn that the fulfillment of his three greatest heartfelt desires does not necessarily bring with it the happiness in life he had hoped for.
11. For Good: The Wicked conclusion travels to Oz again in Part 2
Luckily, after the resounding success of Wicked, fantasy fans only have to wait a year Wicked 2 wait to find out how the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) ends. Of course, again with many musical numbers and this time even interwoven with the story of Dorothy, who comes to Oz and is supposed to defeat the green witch.
12. Even more witches at the end of the fantasy year 2025
