The evening paper has reviewed the popular hamburger chains McDonalds, Max and Burger King and concluded that 115 of the restaurants have been criticized by the municipalities’ environmental and health protection inspectors.
All 290 municipalities around the country were asked, each of 52 municipalities had restaurants with deviations in food controls during the period January 1, 2023 to February 7, 2024.
Food poisoning, mold and rats
The deviations in the restaurants are mainly about hygiene and dirt. At a Burger King restaurant in Skövde, environmental and health protection inspectors noted ingrown dirt, mold on the floor and walls, and flies.
Even McDonalds has had problems with hygiene. A restaurant in Arboga has been reported six times for suspected food poisoning and silver fish have been found in the ladies’ changing room, reports Aftonbladet.
At the hamburger restaurant Max in Skellefteå, signs of rats or mice have been found in a ventilation room.
“There was a hole in the insulation in a drum up against the ceiling, which appeared to be made by rodents,” the inspector wrote in the report.
