112-year-old Gunborg Hancock is the Nordic region’s oldest person – has lived through three wars

In April, the Finnish-Swedish resident of Stockholm and the Nordics’ oldest person, Gunborg Hancock, turned 112. She is a lithographer by profession, and she trained in what was then a rare profession for women at the Ateneum art school in Helsinki.

She worked as a lithographer both in Stockholm and in Paris. Despite the impaired sight and hearing, Gunborg still enjoys all that is beautiful. Nowadays she only makes sketches in her head.

Celebrity at Lilla Essingen

Gunborg has lived in his current home on the small island of Lilla Essingen in Stockholm for almost 70 years. The home reflects Gunborg’s lifelong love of art. She is one of the island’s big celebrities.

One of Gunborg’s closest friends is the writer Stig Larsson, who dedicated several lines to Gunborg in his book Folk på ön.

Gunborg has also been a guest in Larsson’s podcast Cyril & Stig and has appeared in P1 The documentary Pink dreams.

The world situation is worrying

Although Gunborg now lives her life within the four walls of her home, she is still interested in the state of the world. She follows this by both reading newspapers and watching television.

Gunborg really only wishes for one thing for her next birthday in April 2025 when she turns 113.

In the video, Gunborg reveals his greatest wish and gives advice to today’s youth.
