10:07 PM: Cars collide in Nieuwegein
Two cars collided tonight at the intersection of Plettenburgerbaan and Martinbaan in Nieuwegein. That happened around 9:30 PM. No one was injured in the accident. Both vehicles suffered significant damage and were towed by a recovery company. Collisions occur more often at the intersection.
3.54 pm: Man violently robbed of phone
A 22-year-old man was violently robbed of his phone on Vivaldiweg in Bunschoten-Spakenburg on Saturday evening, the police reported today. That happened around 9:30 PM. The man was sitting in a parked car with an acquaintance when three masked men entered the vehicle.
They threatened him with a (possibly fake) firearm and he had to hand over his phone. He then turned off the car and the four drove away in the direction of Amersfoort. It is unclear what exactly the role of knowledge was. The police are looking for witnesses.
3.45 pm: Municipality of Amersfoort calls Stadsring accident ‘tragic’
The municipality of Amersfoort cannot yet say anything about the cause of the accident on the Stadsring in Amersfoort yesterday morning. “We are currently awaiting the results of the police investigation into these two separate accidents,” a spokesperson said. The municipality calls last week’s accidents “tragic and striking”.
11.30 am: Second accident Amersfoort city ring ‘coincidentally’ in the same place
The motorist who crashed into a tree on the Stadsring in Amersfoort yesterday is out of danger. The accident happened at the same place where three men died earlier last week. That accident is still the subject of investigation.
As far as the location is concerned, the police believe it is a coincidence: “We are sure that this was a one-vehicle accident.” The man drove into the same tree, where there were also flowers in connection with the first accident. He was seriously injured. The police spokesperson said that the driver may have become unwell. Tests are also being conducted to determine whether there was substance use.
8.40 am: Pro-Palestinian demonstrators block the UU administration building
A group of fifteen students block the entrance to the administration building of Utrecht University (UU). They demand that the UU cut ties with Israeli universities. Today marks one year since Hamas attacked Israel.
University employees who need to be in the building have been asked to work from home. A spokesperson for the UU says that the university is in contact with the demonstrators.
8 a.m.: Pedestrians injured in 2 accidents in Amersfoort
Amersfoort – Two pedestrians were injured in two accidents in a short time on the Stadsring in Amersfoort this morning. The police confirm this. The accidents happened at the intersections with Molenstraat and Utrechtseweg.
06.00 Fake police officers strike in Utrecht
A woman in Utrecht was scammed on Sunday by a fake agent. The police report this. The scammer said that people wanted to break in at night and that she could secure her belongings with the police. She gave her bank card and jewelry. She later found out she was dealing with a fake cop.
Last week, several reports were received about fake police officers in the city. The police are calling on vulnerable people, including the elderly, to warn about this.
05.50 Cyclist hit at the Vleutenseweg intersection
A car hit a cyclist at the intersection of the Vleutenseweg and the Thomas à Kempisplantsoen in Utrecht. Emergency services arrived on the scene. The cyclist was examined by ambulance personnel. It is not yet clear how the victim is doing.
The intersection was temporarily closed and has now reopened.
