5:42 PM: Burglary at Fort near Uithoorn
There has been a break-in at Fort bij Uithoorn near Amstelhoek. Volunteers at the fort discovered the break-in on Monday morning. Several items were destroyed and a fire extinguisher was emptied. The fort was supposed to be open to visitors next Saturday during Open Monument Day, but it is still uncertain whether that will be possible. Volunteers say they are doing everything they can to make the place accessible again next week.
5:11 PM: Two men arrested for threatening officers
The police in Woerden arrested two men on Sunday morning at the Stationsplein, because they threatened officers. One of them walked around with a large meat knife, the other interfered as a bystander with the arrest.
2:50 PM: Moped car and passenger car collide in Amersfoort
A moped car and a passenger car collided in Amersfoort. The accident happened around 13:45 at the intersection of Radiumweg and Nijverheidsweg-Noord.
The moped car, a vehicle that is allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 45 km per hour, was hit on the side by the passenger car and was badly damaged. Ambulance personnel took care of the people involved. It is not clear whether anyone was injured or had to go to the hospital.
The cars were towed away by a recovery vehicle. It is not known how the accident could have happened.
11:00 am: Possible explosive in Vianen
Possible explosive material was found this morning at a house on Brugstraat in Vianen. Teams from forensic investigation and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service have investigated it and the material has now been removed. The cordon has also been lifted.
09.43 am: Disruption due to work at Utrecht Central Station
The NS advises travellers to avoid rush hour on Tuesday and Thursday on the route from Arnhem via Utrecht to Schiphol. Due to work at Utrecht Central Station, fewer trains are running on that route, which means that the trains can be quite busy during rush hour. The NS speaks of “serious inconvenience for travellers”.
The academic year started again on Monday and during the early morning hours trains across the country were much more crowded than in recent weeks. “It was busier than normal, but still manageable,” a spokesperson said.
Last weekend, ProRail started widening track 5 at Utrecht Centraal. This week, fewer intercity trains will be running, and fewer sprinters will be running in the direction of Driebergen-Zeist, Utrecht and Breukelen. The work will last until Sunday.
08:30 am: Code yellow for severe thunderstorms
In parts of the country, there may be heavy thunderstorms from the end of the afternoon. There is also a chance of heavy rain showers that can cause damage and inconvenience.
07.14 am: Car in crash barrier
On the A28 near Amersfoort a motorist lost control of the steering wheel last night. According to the police the driver had been drinking alcohol and using drugs.
The car hit the guardrail and came to a stop on the hard shoulder. No one was injured. There was a lot of damage, both to the car and the guardrail.
06.23 am: Apartment residents startled by fire
Early this morning, a fire broke out in a porch flat on Columbuslaan in Utrecht. Two people went with the ambulance to check. The apartment and surrounding homes were evacuated. The fire was under control around 05:30.
The house is uninhabitable according to the Utrecht Safety Region. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
