9:30 PM: Point failure at Amersfoort over

The switch failure at Amersfoort has been resolved. NS and ProRail report that trains are running normally again on the routes between Amersfoort and Apeldoorn and Amersfoort and Zwolle.

8:30 PM: No train traffic between Amersfoort and Apeldoorn due to a malfunction

No trains are running between Amersfoort and Apeldoorn due to a switch failure. Train traffic on the routes between Amersfoort and Zwolle, and between Amersfoort and Hilversum are also affected by the failure.

ProRail reports that a technician is on his way to fix the problem. The NS states on its website that the disruption is expected to last until approximately 21:45. Buses have been ordered to be deployed.

7:00 PM: A28 reopens after hours of closure

The A28 motorway between Utrecht and Amersfoort is open to traffic again, reports Rijkswaterstaat. This morning a truck overturned near Leusden, causing the road in the direction of Amersfoort to be closed for hours.

The accident caused damage to the guide rail and the road surface. The recovery also took a lot of time, the truck was loaded with pallets full of cleaning products. The entire load had to be transferred to another truck before the vehicle could be put upright. This was done with the help of air cushions.

Road workers have repaired the road and restored the guardrail.

4:30 PM: Woman (59) dies after bicycle accident in Houten

The woman (59) from Houten who had a collision on her bike in Houten yesterday, died later in the hospital. This is according to the police, who have started an investigation into the accident. The other cyclist, an 18-year-old man, had minor injuries.

At this time it is still unclear how this collision could have happened. The police are investigating and are looking for witnesses.

3:20 PM: Utrecht resident pulled from water in Zoutelande, swimmer dead

A 78-year-old woman from Utrecht was pulled from the water on the beach of Zoutelande in Zeeland. The swimmer has died, the police reported. The police do not suspect foul play. However, the accident is still being investigated.

10.51 am: Gas leak Woerden closed

The gas leak near Woerden station has been sealed by Stedin technicians. This is according to the Utrecht Safety Region (VRU). This morning, a broken pipe occurred during work on Beneluxlaan. As a result, gas could be smelled in the area. The VRU reports that there is now no more gas smell.

10.21 am: A28 closed due to overturned truck

Due to an overturned truck, the A28 from Utrecht to Amersfoort is completely closed. The fire brigade is present to remove the driver and a co-driver from the truck, reports a spokesperson for the Veiligheidsregio Utrecht (VRU). The road is expected to remain closed until 19:00 tonight.

10.10 am: White spot in Cattenbroekerplas

In the Cattenbroekerplas near Woerden, a white spot has been floating on the water since yesterday. Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden is investigating the spot. It is not yet clear what the substance is, which is why the water board is conducting various tests.

09.45 am: Broken gas pipe in Woerden

During construction work on the Beneluxlaan in Woerden, a gas pipe broke this morning. Due to the broken pipe, a gas smell can be smelled in the area and at Woerden station.

The fire department is now investigating whether the broken pipe poses a danger to the environment. And advises people who smell gas to close windows and doors. The fire department also advises to turn off the ventilation and to avoid open fires as much as possible.

06.20 am: Utrecht speeding drivers lose their driving license

The police in Utrecht arrested two drivers last night who were speeding. The drivers did this on the Einsteindreef. A driver of a Mercedes and a driver of a Volkswagen were driving there at 122 kilometers per hour. The permitted speed on that road is 50 kilometers per hour, so the drivers were driving more than 70 kilometers per hour too fast. The police therefore confiscated the driver’s licenses of both drivers.

A motorcyclist who was driving 227 kilometers per hour somewhere else in the city was also stopped by the police. The driver’s license was taken away by the police. Where exactly this happened and how fast it was allowed to drive there is not known.
