Gaming streamer Adin Ross reportedly switched from Twitch to Kick for a lot of money. But the 22-year-old was missing for a few days and skipped his streams on Kick. This sparked wild speculation on Twitter.
Who is Adrin Ross?
Adin Ross is said to get even more money from Kick than xQc:
Ross does not stream on Kick for 5 days – Despite a strong contract
This was the situation: Although Adin Ross has reportedly landed a huge deal with new streaming service Kick, he has now been off the air for a few days: Between July 19 and July 24, his channel on Kick went silent.
This could be due to a conflict with his “mentor” Andrew Tate, with whom he had fallen out: Tate has criticized him for using drugs and for promoting narrow-minded, misguided views of LGBTQ+.
In any case, Ross was off the air for 5 days.
This was the tweet: Twitter user scubaryan_, who frequently posts about streamers, posted a tweet on July 24:
“After disappearing for almost a week for the 5th time in the last 2 months, Kick has officially TERMINATED Adin Ross’ $180M contract.”
A photo of Adin Ross accompanied the tweet.
This tweet has been viewed 11 million times, garnered over 1,000 retweets and almost 60,000 likes.
Tweet was entirely made up, meant to ‘scare Adin Ross’
What’s the problem with this tweet? The tweet is completely made up, there is no statement from Kick.
The tweet was apparently intended as a gag. Minutes after the original tweet appeared, the user posted a second tweet with a picture of Spongebob and the caption, “Hopefully this will scare him enough to start streaming again.”
But the tweet went viral and many apparently took it as a serious announcement that Adin Ross was losing an extremely lucrative contract.
How did Twitter react?? They added as a “contextual hint” that the tweet could be mistaken for a fact. The tweet is misleading: Kick did not terminate the contract.
Does Adrin Ross really make $180 million?? No, the details of his contract with Kick are not clear:
The $180 million was apparently yet another tongue-in-cheek overstatement by the Twitter user, who appears to have overestimated Adin Ross’ followers’ ability to spot irony on the internet.
