In the statement made by the Presidency of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the “100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey”. Aliyev started his letter by conveying his congratulations to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish people on behalf of himself and the Azerbaijani people, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. Aliyev said, “Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the great son of the Turkish world, the great commander and genius leader, managed to unite the people of Turkey around a single idea a century ago and completed the struggle for independence with great success by establishing his most magnificent work, the Republic of Turkey. “On this special day, we commemorate the cherished memory of the Great Leader Atatürk, his comrades and our heroic martyrs with deep respect,” he said.

Underlining that Turkey achieved its independence under very complex and difficult conditions, at the expense of the lives and blood of its martyrs, Aliyev said in his letter to President Erdoğan: “The Republic of Turkey is a strong and mighty state in every respect that has a say in the world. The speed of development of our brother Turkey, entrusted to us by Atatürk, in the last 20 years, having one of the world’s leading armies, excellent achievements in every field including high technology and innovation, the trust and high reputation it has gained in the world, is due to your unwavering will, tireless activity and determined implementation. “It is the result of your rational policy,” he said.
Aliyev said, “Your people’s unconditional support for the strategic development line you pursue with determination and their endless trust in you are the most important factors that will secure Turkey’s future success. “As a brother country, we are very proud and happy to see modern Turkey, which is getting stronger day by day and taking its deserved place in the list of the most pioneering countries,” he said. In his letter, Aliyev also said, “The words of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, ‘One nation, two states’ express the brotherhood, unity and solidarity of our people and reflect the true nature of our bilateral relations. “As proof of this philosophy, I would like to proudly state that Azerbaijan and Turkey are currently the closest countries and allies in the world,” he said.

Stating that the Azerbaijani and Turkish people stand by each other in good times and bad times today, as in history, Aliyev said, “The Azerbaijani people, the brotherly Turkish state and its people, led by you, showed support for Azerbaijan’s just cause and territorial integrity during and after the homeland war.” He will never forget his clear political support and determined attitude. We are determined to strengthen Azerbaijan-Turkey relations, which were raised to the level of alliance with the Shusha Declaration, in every field. “Our interstate relations, built on unshakable foundations such as common moral values, religious and cultural roots, are also the guarantee of stability, peace, development and security in the region,” he said.
Aliyev said, “I am sure that we will continue to jointly and successfully carry out our honorable mission to preserve and further strengthen the Azerbaijan-Turkey brotherhood and unity, which is our greatest asset, and to develop our comprehensive cooperation. “I share the joy of you and the brother Turkish people on this historic day, and wish you health, happiness, success in your work, and permanent prosperity, development and rise for the Republic of Turkey,” he said.
