100,000 children are at risk of starvation in Haiti

The violence that follows in the wake of the gangs that in reality rule in Haiti has increased the risk that the children in the island nation will suffer from acute malnutrition, and the lives of many are in the danger zone, according to Unicef.

— In Haiti, fewer and fewer mothers and fathers can provide their children with adequate nutrition, and they cannot take them to hospitals or aid centers because of the increased violence caused by armed gangs, says Bruno Maes, the organization’s representative in Haiti

He warns that even more children could die if urgent measures are not put in place, among other things the population risks dying from cholera. Since October last year, 41,000 cases of cholera have been registered in Haiti, and nearly half of those infected are children under 14 years of age.

In April alone, over 600 people died in gang-related violence in Haiti, according to the United Nations.
