The new industrial boom lies in the starting pits in the Luleå-Boden area.
It has come the farthest in Boden, where the company H2greensteel previously announced that accommodation will be needed for around 5,000 temporary workers during the construction of the new steel mill.
– The municipality aims to procure and hold land for accommodation for a total of 3,000 people. We are working with five different areas on municipal land, where we have reached different stages in the planning process, says Gabriella Snell, project manager at Boden municipality.
More meetings with industry are needed
In Luleå, it is still at the pre-study level. During the autumn, however, the municipality has received several requests from companies that want to build entrepreneur homes in Luleå.
– We need to have more meetings with the industry before we know how many temporary homes will be needed, says Helena Holm, coordinator for entrepreneurial housing at Luleå municipality.
This is how many homes Malmporten requires
The preliminary study, which will be presented at the beginning of next year, will answer how the municipality should work with municipal land.
The industrial projects closest in time in Luleå are Malmporten 2024, where it is estimated that around 200 entrepreneur homes are needed. After that comes Juniper, Talga, LKAB Remap and SSAB.
