Over the past 10 years, the group has donated $635,000 to 40 local charities.

The first meeting held in May 2014 attracted 118 members, 55 of whom remain with the group today. This year’s membership has grown to 176.

The concept of the group is simple. Members get together four times a year and each donate $100. That money is then donated to a chosen charity.

“It is so gratifying to look around the room and see women diverse in age, from all walks of life and careers, with the same goal – come together to improve lives and support programs in Norfolk County,” said Sue Goble, the group’s co -founder. “May our next 10 years be just as fruitful.”

The recipient of $17,600 from the May meeting, presented by member Jean Lentz, was Norfolk General Hospital. The money will go toward the purchase of a new mammogram machine, which will ensure women have access to the most accurate diagnostic equipment. The $500,000 cost of the device must be raised entirely by the community. There are several fundraisers planned by the hospital to drive donations.
