Ume Sami is a very narrow branch of the Sami language tree and on UNESCO’s list of endangered languages. In recent years, the teacher Henrik Barruk has actively worked to revitalize the language and has, among other things, published a dictionary.
– I want to continue to pass it on to the next generation, he says in SVT’s program Sweden!
“Wear survival and resilience”
The daughter, 28-year-old Katarina Barruk, is also involved and spreads the Umesami language further through her song lyrics. She has been praised as a Sami pop sensation.
– It carries so much survival and resilience. I’m super happy that I can channel that in my music, she says.
