Parents could be hit hard financially if the decision is validated.
The parents will look grim. While various increases have already been announced for 2025, a new one could soon be added to the list and hit their wallets hard. This is unexpected to say the least and has not made any noise, even though it is starting to be well on its way to being adopted. A new blow if this were to be confirmed in the days to come…
Throughout the year, parents and grandparents often keep their children busy with various activities, which generally cost money, and which already represent a certain budget. Not all families can afford to offer leisure activities to their offspring. Did you already find the prices high? It’s not over. Prices are likely to skyrocket from 1er next January. The bill could sting.
On Wednesday afternoons, weekends or even during school holidays, it is not uncommon to take your children to indoor play parks, tree climbing, a laser or escape game, paintball , karting or any other similar activity. However, these outings have a certain cost, easily reaching twenty euros per child depending on age. The family outing can therefore quickly add up. And in 2025, this could even soar.
As the government seeks new revenue, the idea of an increase in VAT on leisure activities has been floated. Currently, the State receives 10% on each entry. In a few weeks, he will perhaps receive 20%. The idea was formulated by MP Philippe Juvin and will be examined in Parliament after many other elected officials approved the proposal during a first stage.
This would concern “exhibitions, sites and installations of a recreational nature”, namely all the aforementioned activities, but also museums, monuments and historical buildings (Eiffel Tower for example), parks and botanical gardens or even all types of amusement parks (Disneyland Paris and Parc Astérix included). For a price range varying from 10 to 50 euros, this would lead to an increase in prices of 1 to 5€ per ticket, the increase in tax being inevitably passed on to the price paid by the visitor.
The proposal must still be submitted to the vote of deputies and senators, as well as to the approval of the government. If this could generate 100 to 300 million euros in additional revenue for the State, families should think even more twice before organizing an activity of this type.
