Is Law of Vengeance worth it?
The Amazon ratings alone show how popular the action thriller starring Gerard Butler is with audiences. 4.8 out of 5 stars almost 1000 reviews speak a clear language. The same picture emerges from the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes: 75 percent positive ratings from the public contrast with only 26 percent positive reviews. At movie pilot stands law of vengeance turn with a strong 7.7 out of 10 points. So why these different opinions?
That’s why Law of Vengeance didn’t go down well with criticism:
In particular, the poorly written B-movie story full of logical errors and weak acting performances did not go down well with the press. However, the film’s message can also be seen as questionable, which is a fundamental problem of revenge thrillers.
That’s why the law of revenge is worthwhile:
Even if the acting performances were not particularly well received by film critics, the two fundamentally different opponents Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) and Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) carry the film. Butler, as an almost supernaturally talented avenging angel, takes pleasure in exacting revenge on the judicial officers involved. At the same time, Jamie Foxx is responsible for somehow taming the wacky story so that the common thread doesn’t disappear beyond recognition.
This dynamic between the two very different characters, paired with straight-forward brain-triggering action including blatant kills and on the other hand features of the exciting Saw series, ensure quite a lot of fun entertainment for fans.
That’s the story of Law of Vengeance
Clyde Shelton can’t believe the murderer of his wife and daughter isn’t sentenced to prison and is instead set free. Having lost faith in US justice, he takes matters into his own hands and seeks out the killer, torturing and killing him. He then allowed himself to be arrested without resisting. The prosecutor Nick Rice, who is responsible for the deal with the killer of Shelton’s family, initially sees no danger in the arrested person. But that changes quickly, because Shelton starts to get rid of those involved with perfidious attacks while still in prison…
