The series Shōgun has been in development at the US broadcaster FX for five years. Now the ambitious project is finally announced with a first trailer. The story of the Samurai epic is based on the novel of the same name by James Clavell and takes you to Japan in the year 1600.
War, betrayal and passion: Shōgun has everything to become one of the best series of 2024
The story centers on British navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who is on a Dutch warship on the way to Japan located. Military and economic interests motivate the trip. But then the sea engulfs the ship and John is stranded on the coast of Japan.
As a prisoner he comes to the court of the daimyo Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada). With time he can Trust of the powerful feudal lord gain. However, when he falls in love with the samurai lady Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), the situation becomes difficult and he has to make a difficult decision in order to survive.

As early as 1980, Clavell’s novel, which had been published five years earlier, was made into a series, starring cinema legend Toshirō Mifune (The Seven Samurai). Over four decades later, another adaptation of the story awaits us. The new Shōgun series was released as a miniseries ten one-hour episodes designed.
Charlotte Brändström, who has worked in the past, is responsible for the production spent a lot of time in Middle-earth has. She is one of the central directors of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and has also directed individual episodes of The Witcher, Outlander and the John Wick series The Continental.
New samurai epic: When does Shōgun start on Disney+?
The specific start date of Shōgun has not yet been determined. The series will be released in the USA February 2024 released via FX on Hulu. In Germany it is scheduled to appear on the Disney+ streaming service in a similar period.
