“10 FUCKING YEARS OF MY LIFE WASTED”

10 FUCKING YEARS OF MY LIFE WASTED

The Blacklist is over and the fan community is divided. A few voices praise the finale as poetic. This is countered by harsh criticism from the disappointed part of the audience. The crime series ran for 10 years and ends with a bull accident of all things. Many fans see red.

Warning, spoilers follow for the finale of The Blacklist.

Fans reckon finale: ‘Such an insult to the legend of Red & fans of The Blacklist’

Raymond Reddington (James Spader) is trampled to death by a bull in Spain in the final scene of The Blacklist. FBI agent Donald Ressler finds him and notifies his superior, Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix). That’s it.

This abrupt end upsets fans. DownAP writes on Reddit:

As if could [das Finale] don’t get any worse, the series will end without ANY ending. No funeral for Red, no denouement for the characters we’ve grown fond of over the years.

After all, Reddington gets the death line under his legendary character. Ressler and Cooper, who, like James Spader, have appeared in all 218 episodes, don’t even get that.

Also the death by a bull makes the fans angry and just as creative. The pun “bullshit” (in German “bull poop”) is becoming a household word in The Blacklist fan community:

Me two hours ago: What kind of bullshit ending will The Blacklist have?
The Blacklist: Literal bullshit.

Of course, there are also positive and mixed feelings about The Blacklist finale. After all, fans have spent 10 years with Reddington and the Taskforce.

Not even I can understand the mixed and unstable emotional journey the ending of The Blacklist took me on…

The fact is, however, that the audience does not get a resolution. Among other things, ReddingtonUnderwood points out on Reddit that the series is their biggest question not answered has – the question of Reddington’s true identity.

Such an insult to the legend of Red and fans of The Blacklist. It’s like the screenwriters didn’t even try. All we get is a hint that the Redarina theory maybe true.

The so-called Redarina theory is the most likely explanation of who Raymond Reddington really is. Here we explain Reddington’s identity in detail.

Reddit member Yaden2 sums it up: “WE STILL DON’T KNOW WHO HE IS????” Frustration is also felt by stuart210. After 10 years of guesswork, there is no answer: 10 fucking years of my life wastedin which I wanted to know who Red really is.”

Fans don’t take the finale seriously and blacklist the bull

Not all fans spit bile. There are different strategies for dealing with disappointment. Many just poke fun at it and fill the internet with their jokes about The Blacklist finale:

  • Magic_Cucumber : “Red just transferred his soul into the bull. That’s why Ressler is looking at the bull from afar like that. Redbull confirmed!”

  • lkernan : The Blacklist #1: The Bull.

  • T-Baller : “Reddington was in truth all along Liz from the future.”

  • Season 10 is streaming on Netflix

If you want to see the finale of The Blacklist for yourself, you can do so on Netflix starting August 12, 2023. The final season appears there in one fell swoop. At Amazon * there is already a large part of the 10th season to stream in German.

Podcast Tip: Why The Blacklist’s End Could Only Disappoint

The Blacklist is a phenomenon. Amidst the prestige series Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, the crime series kicks off on September 23, 2013 with a compelling prelude. That was the beginning of an impressive success story.

My colleague Jenny Jecke and I ask ourselves two questions in the podcast that have been on our mind for a long time: Why is The Blacklist so popular? And is a satisfying ending even possible after Season 8’s twist?
