In some games you will meet very special duos whose stories will never let you go. As part of the Find Your Next Game: Love Edition campaign, MeinMMO presents 10 dreamlike lovers from video games.
Whether in story games, MMORPGs or classics – you can find love in every genre. We would like to introduce you to 10 relationships in more detail below, including heterosexual and homosexual couples as well as close friendships.

Guild Wars 2: Kasmeer and Marjory
Within the main story of Guild Wars 2, Kasmeer and Marjory have been accompanying players through the story of the “Living World” for a while.
Kasmeer comes from a noble family that lost their fortune, which is why she is looking for a job. She finds it in the detective agency of Marjory Delaqua, a necromancer with Canthan roots.
The two fall in love and experience numerous adventures together within the story. Finally, at the end of the End of Dragons expansion, there is a marriage proposal. According to the developers, the scene wasn’t that easy to write.
Final Fantasy X: Tidus and Yuna
Tidus, a professional blitzball player, suddenly finds himself in a different world in Final Fantasy X. There he meets the magician Yuna, whom he accompanies from now on. Tidus’ bravest moments are when he wants to protect Yuna – like when she is kidnapped by the Al Bhed.
During their journey, the two grow closer and become a moving love story. Final Fantasy X will bring players closer to the personal development of the two and their feelings towards each other.
The touching scene in the Macalania River was particularly memorable. It’s night, the reflection of the starry sky glitters in the water. Suddenly, Yuna begins to cry, whereupon Tidus wraps his arms around her and kisses her gently.
Life is Strange: Chloe and Max
In the first part of Life is Strange, Max returns to her hometown where she meets her best friend Chloe. The two had not seen each other for 5 years.
While Max is rather reserved and perceives the world through her camera, Chloe has become rebellious within 5 years: she smokes, drinks, has blue hair and has problems with her stepfather.
Though the two are so different, their friendship grows closer with each chapter. At one point, Chloe challenges Max to kiss her, which players can choose to accept or decline. If Max doesn’t kiss Chloe, her journal says she regrets it.
In general, there are numerous references to a romantic love between Chloe and Max in Life is Strange. Whether it is a friendship or a love relationship remains open. “It depends on how you let Max act with Chloe,” co-director Michel Koch wrote on Twitter.
In 2018, Max’s voice actress Hannah Telle is asked about Chloe and Max’s relationship. “Their relationship is bigger than that. Bigger than love. Bigger than romance,” she replies (via YouTube).
Borderlands 3: Wainwright and Hammerlock
Borderlands 3 has an entire DLC centered around an intimate love affair. It’s called “Guns, Love and Tentacles” and covers the wedding of Sir Alistar Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs.
Before that, the end credits of Borderlands 3 show Wainwright proposing to Hammerlock. He opens up about Hammerlock as “his partner” and “the love of his life” (via Borderlands Wiki).
The two marry on the distant, frozen planet Xylourgos. They invite all Vault Hunters to their wedding, including Gaige and Claptrap.
There is one small problem before the wedding: the planet is inhabited by a cult that worships gigantic dead monsters. Thus the leader of the cult sets her sights on one of the bridegrooms. Players must first save the wedding before it can take place.
Haven: Yu and Kay
In the co-op RPG Haven, Yu and Kay flee together to an alien planet because their relationship is not accepted in their hometown. In order to stay together, they have to leave their planet.
Yu and Kay, who were already a couple before the beginning of the story, now experience everyday life together and face the challenges of a new planet. You explore the area, master fights and craft things – but the focus of the game is the dialogue between the two. “Beautifully written, a great love story,” players write on Steam.
At the beginning of Haven you can choose in which constellation you play Yu and Kay: Either as man and woman, two men or two women.
The Darkness: Jenny and Jackie
The Darkness is a dark shooter – but there’s love to be found here too. You slip into the role of Jackie Estacado, who suddenly gains supernatural powers on his 21st birthday.
Jackie experiences action-packed gunfights in New York City, but there are also scenes where he visits his girlfriend Jenny Romano at her home. The two maintain a loving relationship with each other. In the picture, they are cuddling together, with Jenny resting her head on Jackie’s chest and saying, “I can feel your heartbeat.”
However, Jackie takes on a criminal organization that wanted to kill him. He puts a spoke in their wheel, but then they kill Jenny out of revenge. So their love ends tragically.
The second part of The Darkness is about Jackie wanting to avenge the death of his beloved Jenny and becoming a monster himself in the process.
Mario and Peaches
Almost every Mario game since 1985’s Super Mario Bros. has been about him rescuing his beloved Princess Peach. Peach is a loving, kind character who doesn’t learn from her mistakes, however, which is why Bowser keeps kidnapping her. Mario regularly risks his life for her.
When the two are away from each other, they worry about each other and fights rarely occur. For example, at the end of Mario Odyssey, Peach gets angry that Mario and Bowser are fighting over her. But in the end she forgives Mario (via Mario Wiki).
With the game Super Princess Peach, Nintendo turns the plot around: Here, Bowser kidnaps Mario and Peach has to rescue him. When she returns to her castle after a walk and sees what has happened, she immediately wants to go to rush to his aid. With the help of the umbrella Perry, which she uses for her attacks, she is able to save Mario.
The two have done almost everything together – Peach is an integral part of Mario games and vice versa. There will also be a Mario movie coming soon, and of course Peach shouldn’t be missing either. After all, the two have been together for 38 years.
World of Warcraft: Ilanya and Driana
In 2016, a gay couple came to World of Warcraft with a side quest. Since WoW: Legion there has been the quest line “Cursed but useful”, which sends you to Azsune to learn enchantments from the spirits of the night elves.
Enchantress Ilanya sends you on a search for her former love, who has been dead for 10,000 years: Priestess Driana. She betrayed her, was killed and has been walking around as a ghost ever since. She must be purified so that she can return to Ilanya: “There is a place where Enchantress Ilanya and I have spent many happy hours. The love that pervades such a place is stronger than fel magic.”
After Driana never thought to see the love of her life again, you bring the two back together.
Destiny 2: Saint-14 and Osiris
There is also a loving couple in Destiny 2. The two legendary keepers of Saint-14 and Osiris are in love, as Bungie 2020 confirms.
Osiris is the mentor of Ikora Rey and the former vanguard commander who was exiled. The Titan Saint-14 served as the first Titan Vanguard leader. Through the two you will experience a compelling backstory in which Osiris must rescue the Titan.
Since the Season 12 storyline, it has been relatively clear to players that the Warlock Osiris and Saint-14 have romantic feelings for each other. Osiris found notes from Saint speaking of “his fiery phoenix.”
After the community discussed the alleged lovers, narrative designer Robert Brookes took to Twitter to speak out. He writes: “Yes, Saint and Osiris are gay. Always has been”.
When Osiris was in a very bad state in Season 18 and he was in a coma, it was again Saint-14 who lovingly cared for him and never gave up on him. In the end everything will be fine. Thanks to a special cup of tea, two beloved characters got the sweet and tender reunion they deserved.
Osiris recovers and returns stronger for Season 19. It was an emotional and hard-fought reunion in Destiny 2. Especially when you consider what this couple has been through together.
Final Fantasy XIV: Nanamo and Raubahn
After the Garlear conquer Raubahn’s homeland, he flees to Ul’Dah, where he ultimately becomes the phoenix general and companion of the Sultana Nanamo Ul Namo.
He is loyal to her side and you can see a deep bond between the two. The scenes between them suggest that Nanamo Raubahn cares deeply. Later in the game, it becomes clear that Raubahn’s feelings are more paternal – he loves Nanamo like a daughter.
When someone assassinates Nanamo during the festival and she appears to be dead on the ground, Raubahn loses his composure. He is shocked by her supposed death and kills Teledji, who insulted the Sultana. Shortly thereafter, someone cut off his left arm.
When it later becomes clear that Nanamo is merely in a comatose state and not dead, Raubahn is given the antidote. So he can resurrect Nanamo.
