The baby was reported to have died when villagers tried to save her by force against the monkeys.
“The mother screamed for help and the villagers rushed to her house to help her get her child back from the monkey herd,” said James Manyama, army commander for the town of Kigoma, to which the village is attached.
“I NEVER WATCHED IT LIKE THIS BEFORE”
Manyama told the BBC that the monkeys responded aggressively to the villagers’ attack, and the baby was injured in the head and neck and later died while receiving treatment.
Manyama stated that he had never witnessed such an event before in the region where he had been working for 3 years.
Police have warned the public to beware of monkeys passing near Gombe National Park.
