European Union (EU) countries will send 1 million artillery shells to Ukraine.
EU Foreign Relations and Security Policy High Representative Josep Borrell shared on his social media account during the meeting of the foreign and defense ministers of EU member states in Brussels.
Pointing out that the EU countries have taken a “historic decision”, Borrell stated that the member states have agreed to deliver 1 million artillery shells to Ukraine in the next 12 months.
Borrell stated that they will adopt a 3-stage approach, that 1 billion euros will be provided for the ammunition to be delivered in the first stage, 1 billion euros will be jointly purchased in the second stage, and the production capacity of artillery shells will be increased in the final stage.
Emphasizing that they have taken an important step towards fulfilling their promises to provide more ammunition to Ukraine, Borrell drew attention to the fact that 18 countries have signed up for the EU Defense Agency project to bring orders together.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also shared on her Twitter account, “I welcome today’s agreement, which aims to deliver (to Ukraine) 1 million artillery shells in the next 12 months.” used the phrase.
Pointing out that the Ukrainian soldiers showed great courage and determination, von der Leyen reminded that Ukraine urgently needs ammunition.
Von der Leyen pointed out that they will work with member states to accelerate the production of the EU defense industry.
“WE HAVE A POLITICAL AGREEMENT”
Speaking to reporters in Brussels on the subject, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said, “Today is a good day. We have reached a political agreement on sending 1 million 155 caliber bullets to Ukraine.” said.
