1.5 million cars recalled in France: models must be repaired immediately (and it’s not an airbag problem)

15 million cars recalled in France models must be repaired

An automobile group has recalled one and a half million vehicles that have a major technical defect. Deliveries have also been stopped. Which models are these?

Respecting the highway code saves lives, but sometimes it is not the drivers who are the cause of the risks incurred and accidents. Indeed, the automobile groups themselves can represent a risk due to a technical or manufacturing defect. Recently, DS and Citroën cars were recalled due to a manufacturing defect in the airbags of the Japanese equipment manufacturer Takata. The manufacturer Skoda is also forced to carry out a major recall for the Citigo, Roomster, Fabia II, Rapid, Octavia III, Superb II and Yeti models (MY 2013-2016) produced between September 24, 2012 and June 2014. But another recall has caused a scandal in recent days, and it is not an airbag problem.

This time, it is the X1, 5 Series and Mini models from the BMW automobile group that are the subject of a massive recall. In detail, owners of a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, X2, XM, X5, X5M, X6, X6M LCI, X7 LCI, 5 Series and 5 Touring, 7 Series, as well as Mini Cooper and Countryman, produced between June 2022 and August 9, 2024, should pay attention to the warning lights displayed on their dashboard. Indeed, they could be affected by this recall which concerns 64,000 models in France, including 54,000 for the BMW brand and 10,000 for the Mini brand, according to Capital. The cause: a braking problem from the equipment manufacturer Continental.

Also, if a warning light comes on, the manufacturer recommends that drivers go “immediately” to their nearest dealer. A letter should also be sent to the owners of these vehicles to inform them. In addition, the replacement of the electronic braking system will not be charged to the customer.

So, it doesn’t cost anything to check and make sure that you won’t run any risks when driving. Because the danger is very real. Indeed, this technical defect can damage the braking power and render the ABS inactive, which allows the wheels not to lock when braking.
