00:00 – The 5 most important changes

Blizzard has announced the official start time for the upcoming Season 4 of Diablo 4. MeinMMO briefly summarizes what you can expect.

When does Season 4 start? Season 4 is scheduled to go live on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. German time. We don’t know anything about previous maintenance work yet, so you can probably just log in beforehand. You can find all the information about Season 4 in our summary.

The most important information about Season 4:

We have already been able to talk to the developers in detail about the features of Season 4. Lead Seasons Designer Deric Nuñez and Lead Game Producer Timothy Ismay explain to us how exactly the new mechanics work, what will change for you and what will happen in the future. Here you can find an interview with the developers about Season 4.

Here in the article we will summarize the 5 most important changes that you should know if you want to get into Diablo 4 or come back to Season 4. In the video the developers explain what has changed since the PTR:

1. The best loot comes much earlier

One of the most important changes to the loot is when you can get and wear which items. Blizzard wants to make sure that items you find actually represent an improvement or are at least easier to compare:

  • Sacred items now only fall to world level 3 and you can wear them from level 35.
  • Bequeathed items (“Ancestral”) now only fall to world level 4 and you can wear them from level 55.
  • Bequeathed Legendaries can now carry Major Affixes, which are 1.5 times as powerful as normal affixes. You can recognize them directly by a special symbol.
  • The code of power is also changed in this process. Instead of extracting affixes, it is now enough to use a legendary. In addition, the best variant that has been decomposed so far is always saved instead of just using the low basic value.

Nice bonus: You save a lot of space in Season 4 because you no longer have to collect yellow items. You can also get cloudy crystals by dismantling Legendaries.

    2. Oboluses are much more important than they used to be – hoard them while leveling!

The Obolus dealer will be one of the most important sources of loot in Season 4. From level 100 onwards you are guaranteed to receive loot at item level 925, i.e. the maximum level, and every item purchased can be a legendary.

To this end, the limit for whispering donations was raised to 2,500. This means: You can now accumulate significantly more while leveling up before you have to “gamble” to make room.

Ideally, you should stash your donations until you reach level 100 in order to have the best chance of getting strong items. The Legendaries at the Obolus Trader can have Major Affixes.

Oboluses are also available in Season 4 from more sources, such as the new endgame dungeon “Die Grube” or “The Pit”. This dungeon will be the best source of loot and rewards.

By the way, many cities have been reworked and traders are now in one place instead of scattered around. You should pay the dealers a visit every now and then:

    3. Hellfloods are the best way to level

A large portion of Season 4’s revisions went into the floods of hell. Hellfloods are now significantly harder, but also significantly more rewarding:

  • The monster density is higher than in previous seasons.
  • When you slaughter monsters, you now collect “threat.” If you are threatening enough, assassins appear who want to assassinate you – they give even more and better loot.
  • You can collect Doom Hearts while looting. With 3 of these hearts you can start an event that summons tons of enemies and a boss at the end.
  • With Season 4, Hellfloods will be available on all difficulties, no longer just from world level 3. This means: Hellfloods are the easiest and quickest way to level up from level 1. At higher levels there is more experience.

    4. The new crafting system is better, but still expensive

You can create your own “God Rolls” in Season 4 through hardening and completion, but you still need a lot of luck and time to do so. However, the system is intended to ensure that you have constant progress once you are in the endgame.

    The two systems intertwine:

  • Hardening improves an item by adding more affixes.
  • The affixes are chosen randomly from a list, the “recipe.” You find recipes by playing.
  • Once an item is fully hardened, you can further improve it with Completion.
  • Completion boosts a random affix on the item and can be used up to 12 times per item.
  • At levels 4, 8 and 12 you get a kind of “critical improvement.”
  • For the upgrades you need materials and gold. You can get materials from the new endgame dungeon “The Pit” and by dismantling items. The costs become more and more expensive and in the end you have to pay 10 million gold. By the way, the cost of enchanting is now limited to a maximum of 3 million gold.

If a fully upgraded item isn’t the way you want it, you can reset it. You can find all the information about the new system here:

You can also craft Uber Uniques yourself in Season 4. However, you need very rare materials to do this. During the season you will receive almost enough of it for free to make an Uber Unique.

    5. The endgame is more understandable and accessible

With Season 4, your primary source for just about everything will be The Pit. You unlock the new dungeon through a short quest. As soon as you reach world level 4, you should complete a nightmare dungeon at level 46.

Completing it will give you rune shards, which you can then also get from other sources such as world bosses, events, infernal floods and whispers. With the shards you open access to the pit, which then proceeds similarly to a Greater Rift from Diablo 3:

  • You don’t have goals like in dungeons, you should simply slaughter enemies.
  • You only have a limited amount of time to do this, so you have to be quick enough.
  • If you manage it, there will be a boss at the end that you have to defeat.
  • The pit has 200 levels of increasing difficulty. In the pit you get materials for crafting, loot and donations, so you can grind here ideally. You level glyphs as usual via nightmare dungeons – with Season 4, the XP for the glyphs is increased by 25%.

For the biggest challenges and better chances of getting Uber Uniques, you will face the Pinnacle bosses and their “Tortured” versions at level 200 in Season 4. Andariel joins them as the new boss. You can now get the summoning materials from more sources, such as treasure goblins.

Quality of Life and other changes in Season 4

In addition to the “big” changes, there are a few smaller quality improvements that make the game more enjoyable. On Reddit, a user has put together 27 points that players should now remember. We have summarized the most important ones here:

  • Horses can now gallop in cities: “You can do that here now!”
  • Elixirs now grant 8% additional experience at World Tiers 1 and 2, up from 5%.
  • A new elixir increases your movement speed – ideal for leveling up.
  • You can now zoom out the camera further, something players have wanted for ages.
  • Player trading is expanded: Everything except items that are account-bound through crafting and Uber Uniques can be traded, including Uniques and Legendaries.
  • There is a 6th place for the chest.
  • To this end, Blizzard is working on making some of the existing systems more understandable, including values. Certain attributes such as the increase in the size of area attacks are limited and you can now see where the cap is. A particularly useful change concerns armor, the most important defensive value: from Season 4 onwards you only have to remember one number.
